Home Security Sensor

By

If you want to augment your home security system, there are a variety of types of home security sensors that you can choose from. Most home security systems come with a few sensors, but you may wish to purchase more for complete protection. There are many different types of home security sensors--the following will be explored: door sensors, window sensors, Passive Infrared motion detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and smoke detectors.

Door Home Security Sensor

Door Sensors are installed in a door frame and consist of magnetic read switch tape that creates a circuit when the door is closed, if someone opens the door they break the circuit which then causes a signal to be sent off to the control panel which then can activate an alarm. How this works is that a read switch that is contained within a plastic capsule, if a magnet is moved close to the switch then the switch moves to a closed position which completes the circuit. When the door opens and the door is moved away, the circuit is then broken. The read switch in the capsule is installed in the door frame and the magnet on the door.

Window Home Security Sensor

Some window sensors operate in the same manner as door sensors using magnetic strips and read switches. You can also purchase shock type sensors, these are triggered when someone strikes the window.

PIR Motion Home Security Sensor

If you want to detect motion on your property or in your home then you will want to use PIR motion sensors. These sensors work by detecting body heat. When used as a part of a home security system, they are used in conjunction with door sensors and are set with a slight delay before they trigger an alarm. The delay allows homeowners to deactivate the alarm as they enter their home.

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

These home security sensors detect if there are high levels of carbon monoxide in your home. If high levels are detected then an alarm is triggered. If you use appliances like water heaters or gas stoves, then it is a good idea to use these sensors to monitor them. These sensors can save your life because carbon monoxide is odorless.

Smoke Detectors

Smoke detectors are another type of home security sensor that can also save your life because they monitor your home for the presence of fire. When fires occur they can spread very quickly and you may not have enough time to alert people in your home. Fire detectors let everyone know in an safe and efficient manner that they must evacuate the premises.

We hope that you have found this guide to the different home security sensors helpful. With a little research you can find more in depth information concerning home security sensors and which ones will be right for your home.
